Thank You DC for Obama

What a stunning victory! Never had I imagined that we could win so decisively. The credit goes to all of you. All of your phone calls, door knocks, and emails brought us to where we are today. This election was different than the past two because of your active participation in the process.

Without your commitment we could not have sent 700 volunteers on buses to South Carolina and Ohio during the primary. And we certainly would not have organized 2100 folks to canvass in Northern Virginia over the past two months. The achievements of DC for Obama are yours just as much as they are mine and the rest of the DCFO steering committee.

Our efforts were critical in the battleground state of Virginia. Together we logged 14,000 volunteer hours and knocked on just over 100,000 doors. To accomplish this, we had 50+ organizers behind the scenes coordinating volunteers every day of the week. We turned Virginia blue for the first time in 44 years because thousands of you worked hard at it. You sacrificed your social life, time with loved ones, and in some cases, your sanity. And you did it for free. Thank you!

There have been many unsung heroes during this election cycle and I’d like to recognize some of them.

Mike Shor: A founding member of DC for Obama that served as an inspiration to so many of us. After canvassing for Obama in nearly a dozen states during the primary, he passed away in March. Last night was for him and so many others that didn’t live to see the day.

Kim Morton: A longtime member of DC for Obama and current chair. She has been working on the advance team for the campaign these last two months.

Ian Martinez: Led the group during much of the primary election before joining the campaign field staff. He has been working in Indiana for the past four months.

Howard Park: A founding member of DC for Obama and the person behind all of our meetups at the Hawk ‘n’ Dove. Has been managing our newsletter for the past few months.

Greg Jackson & Brian Levy: Worked with me in managing the DC2VA Victory Teams program, which produced 100,000 door knocks.

Many of you have been asking what’s next for DC for Obama, which will live on in some form. If we hope to see President Elect Obama enact the changes we need, he will need our support.

I hope you will continue to stand together with him. While the election has come to a conclusion, the real work of charting a new course for our country has just begun.
